Loop recording on a dash cam allows for continuous recording even if the SD memory card reaches full capacity. This means older files are overwritten once the.
Loop recording is the process of recording audio continuously to an endless tape (if magnetic tape is used) or to computer memory, or recording video feeds (such as from video surveillance or camera signals) on a video server.[1] This process is a never-ending one: at the end of the internal disk drive, the recording process continues to record at the beginning, erasing the previously recorded material and replacing it with the new content.
Generally, it is possible to write-protect some selected parts (as video clips) to prevent erasure.
This process is used on video servers to allow continuous recording, and instant access to any material ingested in the previous hours. This guarantees that the recorder will never miss an action in some live events such as live sports.
Video servers[edit]
This process is used in:
- the XT[2] server from EVS Broadcast Equipment company
- the APA-IT LoopRecorder.

Hi,
I just bought the Rexing V1 off amazon, and I have a question about loop recording. If I set it to 3 minutes for example, does that mean there's always just a single 3-minute recording on my memory card? Or does it mean that it creates multiple 3-minute clips, and then deletes the oldest one as the memory card fills up?
Basically, I want to make sure the memory card is filling up before any of the video files start getting overwritten. Is that how it works, or does the loop setting mean you never have more than 3 minutes (or whatever you set) of footage stored on the card?
Here's the relevant section from the manual:
Loop Recording Recommended setting: 3 Minutes, 5 Minutes, 10 Minutes With Loop Recording Mode enabled, the device will continuously erase older video files, as it records new video, keeping only the images captured over a user-selected time range. All video files older than this range will be replaced with new video. (Note: any locked video files on the memory card will remain protected, and will not be automatically deleted during Loop Recording.)
I just can't tell if this means that if you enable this setting, it only keeps a single file on the memory card, and overwrites it every x minutes (whatever you set). Anyone know if this is how it works?
